EDUCATION, SWEDEN

Organization: The non-profit Foundation Gerlesborgsskolan in Hamburgsund is located in the municipality of Tanum on the Swedish West coast. It is a school of fine art and a cultural centre open year round. The art school was founded in 1944 by the famous artist Arne Isacsson. It has a solid tradition and a focus on contemporary art. 80% of the Swedish art scene has passed through the school in one way or another, and today Sweden's most valued artists are former Gerlesborg students. Gerlesborg is a combination of cultural experience, landscape and new ideas with a focus on contemporary art. One of our main goals is to contribute to a more diverse and equal art scene. The school has three main activities: • 2-year education in Fine Art at two schools in Sweden, Gerlesborg (Swedish West Coast) and Stockholm. The ambition is to give the best possible preparations for further studies at various university programmes such as fine art, architecture and design but also provide a solid basis for their own work. The level of this course is equivalent to preparation classes at Universities/Art Academies. • Short courses: the school conducts approx. 50 short art courses for artists (from beginner to advanced level) with around 750 participants per year. • A wide range of activities such as exhibitions, concerts, seminars and work-shops. In addition, the school also provides residential facilities for students, artists and visitors. Our students are admitted at internationally re-known Universities/Art Academies (e.g. Copenhagen, Oslo, Berlin, London, Amsterdam, New York and Stockholm). We are currently in a process of intensifying and developing our international activities. On a local/regional level, we have a viable partner.

Project: Our future projects aim to promote cooperation in the field of art and culture with a focus on contemporary art, education, performing art, music and, in a wider perspective, even national education in art. Through international exchange and cooperation we will contribute to create a more equal and interesting art scene in Europe. We set high value on building a solid basis with potential partners to apply for EU-grants from 2014 onwards. It is crucial to us to develop projects together with our future partners. Objectives of our possible projects: - Cultural exchange, broaden the participants’ horizon - Mutual learning, exchange of experiences - Create a more equal art scene within Europe - Promote young artists, circulation of their works - Improve future artists’ international network and hence career opportunities - Development and sharing of best practices in art education methodologies, in particular for children and youth, to promote access and knowledge of contemporary art - Methodological development for programming in small scale cultural organisations - Audience-development within the field of visual arts and music - Development and sharing of best practices in cultural work with a focus on peripheral and rural areas Possible activities to contribute to the specific objectives: - School exchange - Study visits (for students and teachers) - Touring exhibitions - Workshops, seminars, debates and think tanks (about specific currently relevant topics) - Residence program - Children& youth activities: short courses, weekend workshops, art camps - Exchange and knowledge transfer with institutions with new or different methods in art education

Partner search: Gerlesborgsskolan is searching for partners for projects involving institutions, businesses and organisations promoting future artists within the future EU programme Creative Europe, Erasmus + or similar programmes. Possible partners are art schools having similar programmes, art and cultural organisations with a future vision on working with international projects. Potential partners should have experience of working with traditional and/or new art techniques as well as new media, performing art and contemporary music. It is preferable that the collaborators joining the project have proficiency in English. We are also interested in cultural institutions who have worked with e.g. methodology development, audience development, touring exhibitions.

Timeline: The application will be submitted during 2014 and project carried out during 2014-2015, depending on the call for proposals within Creative Europe, Erasmus+ (Key action 1 or 2) or similar programs. If you find this proposal interesting, please do not hesitate to make contact for further details by 1st of January 2014 at the latest.
