Title: Youthwork: Explore, Train, Impact Description of the Project: Participants will be based in two local communities and work alongside veteran and student youth workers. Youthwork settings include lunch time clubs and assemblies in the schools, after school groups, community drop-ins, mentoring relationships, social activities and residential trips away. Participants can expect not only to make a positive impact on local young people, but to gain proficiency in English, increase awareness of their own interests and talents, gain the ability to learn for a lifetime through self-reflection and leave with the inspiration to be an agent of social change. Many participants also discover a desire to engage with young people as a lifetime vocation and go on to Higher Education to train for a career in youth or social work Accommodation will be provided and consist of volunteers living together in a shared flat or with a host family. All transportation for youth work and training activities will be provided. Funds will be provided for purchasing food and personal essentials. Youthwork experience will be supported by meeting three times per week for support and for building youth work skills. Participants will also join with other youth workers from across the country at six one-week long support and training conferences. In addition, field experiences in England's Lake District as well as Northern Ireland will allow for team bonding and the sharpening of visionary and leadership capabilities. Ideal participants will have expressed a desire to gain experience in and explore a potential future in the youth work sector. Volunteers who best fit this project are those who are committed to working as part of a cross-cultural team of veteran and student youth workers and who enjoy learning practical skills through real life practice in youth work settings. Partner Sought: They seek to identify up to nine individuals from European countries who have a concern for young people and who desire to gain experience in the youth work field as they serve as part of a team in a cross-cultural setting. Volunteers will ideally be between the ages of 18-25 and we seek a balance of male and female participants.
